History #
Oran has a rich history dating back to the early settlement of Iowa. The community has maintained its small-town character throughout the decades. In 1925, Oran had a population of 94 residents, and by 1940, the population had grown to 120.
From 1961 until 1999, Oran was home to the Wapsie Valley School District’s junior high school, which played an important role in the community’s identity. Though the school was eventually closed due to budget constraints, education remains a valued part of Oran’s community spirit.
